Swedish Summer Wedding on Gotland - SOMMARBRÖLLOP PÅ GOTLAND - C&C - Gotland Wedding Photographer – Destination Wedding AT Gotlands Stelor in Sweden
Summer wedding on Gotland—what could be more of a Swedish countryside dream? Gotland itself is a gem in the Baltic Sea, surrounded by beaches with rugged limestone formations, lots of poppies and flowers and old windmills. It’s a place that draws artists in for deep-work. In summer, it transforms into a beloved holiday destination for Swedes where everyone flock to Visby and go on bicycle tours and hop around the various cafes.
Nowadays, the island is easily accessible via daily ferries from the south of Stockholm County, as well as flights from Bromma and Arlanda airports.
I arrived to the venue Gotlands Stelor in the middle of heavy rainfall, as clouds were sweeping across the entire country that day—it rained everywhere in Sweden. I kept a close eye on the weather, hoping the ceremony could still take place outdoors. We had to improvise and take family photos indoors. For the couple portraits, we stepped outside for a brief moment before it was time for the guests to arrive, and the couple hid away at the venue.
The ceremony was set in the old apple tree garden and officiated by a close friend of the couple. Their playlist was one of the most contemporary I’ve heard — filled with electronic music that set a modern tone.
The couple loves skiing and the mountains, and I couldn’t help but notice how the wooden reception space, where dinner was held, resembled a mountain chalet. The theme was black tie. Honestly, any place and in any weather becomes elevated in such attire.
After dinner, there was a brief moment when the sky cracked open and golden light poured through, just in time for a few final golden-hour portraits with the sun glistening in the bride’s champagne dress. After the official part was over, guests enjoyed some espresso martinis and continued with the dances.
As a destination wedding photographer, photographing a wedding on Gotland has long been a dream of mine. If you’re planning to celebrate your wedding on the island and are looking for a photographer, I would love to hear from you. Travel to Gotland is included in my larger wedding photography packages.
